Chase has spent his entire life being told how special he is. When he was a kid, it was his Mom who constantly boosted his ego, and since he's become this big football star, it's pretty much everyone.
As a result, Chase walks around the school like he owns the place. He knows that half the student body worships the ground he walks on, and milks it for all it's worth. As far as he's concerned, he's earned the right to take what he wants from life, and that happens to be the best parking spot in the student lot, drink, drugs, or someone else's girlfriend, well, so what?
In truth, Chase is very insecure. He has a compulsive need to be liked, and reacts badly when people confront or question him. He's not into bullying, exactly- if you mind your own business and pay him the respect he thinks he deserves, he's cool with you- but if you show him up, he'll take revenge. He's incredibly competitive, and the very thought that anyone else might be better looking, cooler or more talented than him is almost enough to make him break out in hives.
This insecurity does have its upside, however. His constant need for validation drives him to work incredibly hard on the Football field and in the gym, to ensure that the accolades keep coming.
He's a charismatic guy, and has an excellent sense of humor, even if it does come with something of a mean streak attached. The girls he's been with will tell you that's he's a surprisingly sensitive and romantic guy... that is, until he gets bored of you. He keeps convincing himself that the next hot girl he hooks up with, the next all-star selection, the next awesome party he throws will make him happy with himself, but it never does.
His closest confidante in the world is probably the younger of his two big sisters, Ellen. She's a junior at SUNY Stony Brook, and he calls her every few days. This is kinda a secret, though.
Chase Handelman is the third child of a pretty normal Tri-State-Area family. Importantly, however, he is the only boy, and as a result, was doted on by his Italian-American mother constantly. Despite this, or perhaps more accurately because of it, Chase was never particularly happy as a child. He got bored of things easily, and always wanted more- more toys, more attention, more friends. Still, he was outgoing and confident as a boy, and had little difficulty making friends, so compared to many his childhood can be said to have been pretty easy.
He always got decent enough report cards- a mix of Bs and Cs with the very occasional A thrown in - but his true talent lay on the gridiron. His Dad Roger, a huge Giants fan, had him playing Pop Warner football as soon as he started Elementary school, and young Handelmann shone pretty much straight away. His combination of height, athleticism, and co-ordination made him a natural quarterback.
So he went through the school system, muddling by in classes and excelling on the football field. Junior High brought a new interest in girls, and high school allowed Chase access to a whole new world of partying, music, and beer, which he embraced with both arms. Football, though, was a constant. He spent his afternoons on the field and in the gym, and his summers at quarterback camp. Whilst it wasn't quite the case that football was his life, he knew at least it was the key to getting what he wanted out of it.
Chase QBed the JV team as a freshman, won the starting quarterback position for the varsity as a sophomore. It took a couple of games for him to adjust to the level of competition, but he was soon excelling. In his Junior year, Chase broke the school record for touchdown passes, and college scouts became a regular sight at Lux Lucis games.
Then came his Senior year, and Chase has three objectives: break the district TD pass record, get a really hot girl or several, and party as much as he can get away with.
