Erin acts notably different when she's with her group of friends, and when she is alone or with strangers. While with her buddies, she would laugh, play pranks, rap, and seem friendly and approachable. However when not around the, Erin is on her guard. Due to some past experiences, she tends to try and stay unnoticed while she's around stranger. However, when with her friends, she may become loud and seem extremely social.
She does not get along with other girls. Erin has a distaste for the drama that usually comes hand-in-hand with most girls' personalities. The tomboy has also been treated badly by a number of girls who found out she wasn't actually a boy. Another reason for her usually keeping company with boys is that the girls she's liked in the past were all straight or showed no interest.
Erin has never had a girlfriend, and has in a sense given up hope. High school is not the greatest environment for those who deviate from the norm. So, in order to save herself some grief, Erin sticks to her group of guy friends and puts her focus into playing football and playing the drums, rather than keeping an eye out for a girl who just might have an interest in the same sex.
Lan Ying was born in Shanghai on he first of April. Her mother was in good health, and they were both released from hospital in the normal amount of time. Lan Ying does not remember China from that time period, as she, her parents and her father's father moved to America when she was three.
They settled in New York's China Town, and her parents picked an English first name for their daughter, for when he would start school; Erin. Due to being close to her family, as well as due to an environment where the language was constantly spoken, Erin learned Chinese with ease. She can speak it fluently, however she lacks skills in the writing and reading of it.
Much to both of her parents' dismay, she grew into quite a tomboy. When this "phase" did not pass as she entered her teens, they started to despair, fearing that their daughter would never get married. This brought considerable tension to the family and their home. Erin got involved in sports, needing more time away from the atmosphere in her home.
In her last year of junior high, when girls were expected to look like girls, and boys expected to look like boys, Erin was bullied. She refused to act and dress feminine, as it simply did not suit her. This caused a number of the girls to call her names and treat her badly. Needless to say, she was glad when the year was over and she left for Lux Lucis academy.
Within her freshman year, she made most of the friends she spends time with today, and she got herself involved in sports again. As there were not enough girls to form a girls' football team, Erin's skill in the game allowed her to be accepted onto the boy's team. Some of the boys did not approve of this, however the majority welcomed her.
Being on the football team got her attention, most of it unwanted. Girls would find her appealing, thinking she was one of the boys, and then feel repulsed when finding out Erin's true gender. The negative treatment from her last year in junior high repeated itself.
Over the two years spent at Lux Lucis, Erin found herself developing feelings for two or three girls. However they all turned out being straight, or for some other reason uninterested. Erin has given up in a sense, at least until she finished high school. The tomboy focused her attention in stead on her friends, school work, music, and football.
On occasion, a girl will catch her attention, but Erin doesn't bother approaching her or showing interest. It'd be pointless and a waste of time, right?
