Hair: Being the vain girl that she is, Maria pays quite a bit of attention to her hair, and always has it clean. She parts it to her right and keeps it away from her face, usually tucking it behind her ears or putting it up in a prettily messy ponytail. It never goes shorter than shoulder length, and never past her chest, but stays a few inches longer than her shoulders. Maria's hair is somewhat thin but soft, and is dark chocolate brown in color.
Eyes: She has almond-shaped, narrower eyes which are a very dark brown in color.

Like most teenagers in high school, Maria has a defensive wall up. A wall that receives praise, compliments and humans of the male gender alike, and rejects any type of authority or higher power than herself.

On her journey to become the perfect temptress Maria envisions herself as, she has dumped love advances that could have been possibly beneficial to her life, and instead accepted the scumbags, the sleazy, and the downright disrespectful. She chooses her lovers according to her own satisfaction, sometimes intentional, sometimes not so. But when Maria thinks she has figured somebody out, she pokes at their weaknesses in hopes that they form a sort of dependence on her. Then in a thrill-seeking adventure to make herself feel better, she crushes that very person.

Although she can be a downright bitch, the girl is for the most part aware of what she is doing, and shies away from close friendships knowing they're not something she can handle. Instead she uses any sex appeal she may have from her broken self esteem to lure in every and any boy that she can. She finds pleasure in making over people nervous, making them squirm even if it's just for a class period, or a few minutes during free time. It's a hunger for power and attention that she was deprived from as a child.

However although she seems tough, strong and sure of herself, Maria is both self-conscious and unhappy with herself. She can actually break easily and is absolutely terrified of rejection, because to her, it means she is losing power. Considering all of her relationships are either fake or used for sexual means, she also finds herself quite lonely at times.

Fortunately, Maria can be a surprisingly good friend. She only uses boys because she is judgmental of them, convinced that each one of them is just as scummy and selfish as she is. Therefore her only close friends are female, and she treats them quite well.

She's sarcastic and snippy, and has a fiery tongue, especially when someone starts her off. The girl isn't one to back off, and often she doesn't know her own place and defends herself and her friends to the death. Maria refuses to let anyone make a fool out of herself, and can resort to vicious, sneaky plots to get those back who wrong her. Grudges stay a while with this girl, and once her trust is broken with someone it is broken forever.

Maria grew up among many older siblings, all which were very over-protective and parental because of the age difference and the status of their deceased father. Gabriella D'Agnolo became a single mother of 7 children after her husband died of lung cancer a few years after Maria's birth. Financially she didn't have to struggle too much because her husband's sickness came slowly, giving the family time to become secure just in case he did pass away soon. However raising 7 children did serious damage on Gabriella's emotional state, and she began drinking more and more into a state of incapability.

By that time, Maria was the only teenager left, as her other siblings were off graduating college or starting their own families. She became an angry teenager, frustrated with her failing attempts to gain attention from her mother and also feeling a sense of abandonment from her siblings. Although they were still there for her over the phone and weekend visits, Maria craved more, and deemed it unfair that she was the only one of her siblings who had to go through her mother's depression alone.

This caused the girl to seek attention in very negative ways, ways that included sex, alcohol, and drugs. But of course, her promiscuity did not only give her misguided attention, it also left her with a general sense of shame. She stopped respecting herself and relied heavier and heavier on the boys she got involved with. Without realizing it, Maria was starting to let herself be controlled by the boys she was trying to control.

When she was finally caught with the neighbor's boy by her mother, Maria was grounded for the first time for a span of 4 weeks as her mother researched Cinders. Thinking it was the perfect school to turn her daughter around where she failed, Gabriella packed Maria's things and sent the girl there at the beginning of her Junior year.
